Champagne
The Drink of Celebration
“Two warm bodies and one cold bottle
of Champagne
will produce something more wonderful than would
happen without the Champagne” – Helen Gurley
Brown
Champagne, with its shimmering bubbles
and its elegant, refined flavors, is likely the most famous
wine in the world. Champagne is the best-known example of a
style of wine known as sparkling wine (due to its countless
tiny bubbles). All that sparkles is not Champagne though. Confused?
Only sparkling wine produced in the Champagne region of France
is entitled to the name Champagne. Bubbly made in the United
States is simply known as sparkling wine, and tends to feature
the same delightful combination of grapes that have been employed
for hundreds of years in Champagne: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and
Pinot Meunier. Sparkling wine from Spain for instance is called
“Cava”,. In Italy it is called “Spumante”
and in Germany it is known as “Sekt”. with most
every wine-producing country making some form of sparkling wine.
To the world it is a special drink for special occasions.
